The Martinez, with Orange
There’s something so decadent about this classic gin cocktail, but now it’s the Martinez, with orange. Or has it always been that? The gold standard of cockail recipe books, The Savoy Cocktail Book by Harry Craddock, lists a recipe for the Martinez to include either maraschino or orange liqueurs. Gotta love booze options!

I already posted a recipe for the Martinez with Luxardo, a maraschino liqueur. It’s a much different flavor than this version with Cointreau based orange goodness, and it might just depend on what you have in your liquor cabinet. Or try both.
The Martinez, with Orange
Ingredients
- 1.5 Oz. Old Tom Gin
- 1.5 Oz. Sweet vermouth
- 1 Barspoon Cointreau
- 2 Dashes Orange bitters
Instructions
- Mix all of your ingredients in your mixing glass.
- Add ice and swirl away!
- Strain into your coupe glass and enjoy.
- Garnish with a bit of fresh orange, perhaps a twist?

Notes on the Martinez, with orange!
Here’s where you can really find so many different variations within the recipe. It starts with the Old Tom. I’m lucky enough to have some amazing craft distilleries around and found a local Old Tom gin variety. You can even order crafted Old Tom gins online!
Ransom makes a delightful Old Tom gin, which can be a bit sweeter than others if you feel like that’s more your style.
This delightful gin cocktail is also super boozy and a bit fruity if you add a ton of orange flavors. I’d call it mandatory sipping, if that’s even a thing.
