Make Your Own Grenadine Cocktail Syrup!
It couldn’t be easier to make your own grenadine – that deep pink cocktail syrup loved by tiki drinks and Shirley Temple loving kids everywhere. I won’t like and say there are hundreds of gin drinks that long for some of this sweet pink syrup, but there are a few.
Making your own grenadine also has the epic bonus of eliminating some high fructose corn syrup and perhaps some other questionable preservatives and ingredients. Those store-bought brands have a long shelf life for a reason.
But there’s still a lot of regular sugar in this recipe, so sweet tooths of the world unite!
Grenadine Syrup from Pomegranate Juice
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup Pomegranate juice
Instructions
- Combine your sugar and pomegranate juice on the stovetop.
- Bring things up to a boil, stirring to encourage the sugar to dissolve.
- Let things simmer a bit to thicken up.
- Cool and store in a jar! Keep your fresh grenadine in the fridge for safekeeping for a few weeks.
Your pomegranate syrup should be stored in the fridge for a few weeks, in a sealed jar. There’s no limit to the jars that you can find at your local box store or online retailer, but to keep things simple a food storage container is just fine.
What gin drinks can you make with grenadine?
Gin cocktails generally fall into the confines of a typical cocktail recipe – part spirit, part sweet or liqueur, part tart. Anytime you want to add some sweet, you could toss in some grenadine syrup.
You can also make classic gin drinks, like the Monkey Gland or the Gin Daisy or even a Pomegranate Gin and Tonic.
If you prefer to create your cocktails based on COLOR – you can make just about any drink a PINK version by adding this pomegranate goodness. In whatever amount you like to get that perfect shade of rose or red or maroon.
