The Gintermission

This gorgeous gin cocktail takes it’s inspiration from the Opening Act cocktail, becoming the Gintermission. The opening act artfully pairs ginger and Campari flavors with club soda. This version ditches the club soda in favor of gin.

The beauty of this drink is the ever so subtle Campari bitterness on the tongue. The other fruit and ginger flavors are equally subtle and make for a delightful and colorful way to have some gin.

The Gintermission

Ingredients

  • 1 Oz. Gin
  • 1.5 Oz. Ginger liqueur Such as Domaine de Canton
  • .5 Oz. Campari
  • .5 Oz. Lime juice

Instructions

  • Let your coupe glass chill a bit, and gather your ingredients.
  • Combine your Campari, gin, lime juice, and ginger liqueur in a shaker with ice.
  • Mix it up!
  • Strain into a coupe glass.

Bad puns aside, this gin cocktail is amazing.

Campari is definitely an acquired taste, but when you start with half of an ounce, the color and bitter begin to come through. It’s a nice way to dip your toes into the Campari pool without going full-on Negroni.

I also suppose you could garnish this with a number of things, I chose to keep it naked because I just couldn’t decide what I wanted. Try playing around with a lime twist or expression, a piece of candied ginger, or even some mint.

You could also make toss in some dashes of orange bitters, as is in the original Opening Act recipe for another layer of flavor.

For other Campari drinks, try the Gin and Campari Old Fashioned, the Mae Rose, and the Jasmine.
